Thanks again Mike. OK, that helps a bit with the different model/part numbers but I still wonder what the physical difference is between ABS and non as far as the fender goes. And ... as with the black, why one is less than 19 (ABS), and the non ABS is $54, strange!
Yes, I've heard of that method for hanging the front end, and actually like it. Not to make excuses but my garage is all drywalled with a portion of the house directly over - hmmm, that being said, it would have to be constructed with at least 2x6's wouldn't it for floor joists? Maybe it would be strong enough then - I will have to look into this as I'd trust it way more than a wobbly front stand.
Hmmm, half my coworkers were sick on Saturday ... maybe that explains why I'm having such a lazy ass weekend!!
Still to lazy to see for myself but does any one know if I can pull the fender without removing the front wheel?
I can only quote the service manual, and it says to remove the wheel before removing the fender.
Of course, that doesn't mean that is the only way to do it.

I would think that if you have an upper level of your house over the garage, those ceiling/floor joists would be at least 2x8, maybe 2x10, or better... if it's newer construction, you might even have those pre-engineered joists, which are pretty stout.
Yeah, I'm not sure about the difference between an ABS and non ABS fender, either. I do know that Honda doesn't create different part numbers for identical parts, though.
EDIT: Maybe the only difference is the decal on each side of the ABS fender that says Combined ABS System? That's the only thing I can think of...

Those are some expensive decals if that's the case
Yep, I'm definitely going to have to try and go with a hanging system - one reason I'd just as soon not have a drywalled garage, so much easier to hang shelving and everything else without! Hmmm, maybe if I manage that I'll go for some stiffer fork springs after all I haven't really spent a lot of time on this bike so far, but have done a few mods and have to admit, for a $3,500 bike I'm really having fun with it, and yeah, riding it's pretty good too, hehe
You DO NOT need to remove the front wheel to remove the fender.
On each side, there are two bolts up front for which you'll need an allen wrench (5mm?) and one rear bolt with a 10mm nut on the outside and an 8mm head on the inside. You'll need a small 8mm wrench and maybe some slender hands to get access.
I bought the cheap black fender and it came with ABS stickers applied.

Nice to know NSU, that means I don't have to fret about a hanger just yet. Is your bike ABS? What I'm getting at is if you are aware of the difference between ABS and non ABS front fenders, (besides almost 3x the price for a black one).
Though, I guess it's a mute point as I can simply paint the one I have.

Edit: I'm still sold on going with a white one.
My bike is ABS. I don't know what physical difference there could possibly be, other than one fender having no ABS sticker applied from the factory. The illustration in the parts catalogue is the same.
The KPP/KYJ breakdown does appear to follow some market-specific coding, so the big price difference is most likely just a country of origin issue.

I finally got around to painting my front fender white. I just used gloss white rust-oleum. Along with the now flat black muffler shield I like the looks much better - much more like the 2013 tri I think, though of course tank and upper headlight fairing is still blue. Overall I'm pleased.
Also, as NSU said, it is not necessary to remove the wheel to get the fender off. Rather easy really, just need a tad bit of dexterity to get to the 8mm bolt head between wheel and fender, and even that's not so bad. Then, just lift the fender up and out, simple.
Yeah, I know the pic sucks, but whatcha gonna do? (To lazy to roll it out of the garage right now )
