I live in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC. I do not yet have a bike yet but am looking a getting one. I have taken an MSF course and have a motorcycle endorsement and am starting to get the necessary safety gear.
I'm looking forward to participating more in the CBR250 forum community that you all have created here and then joining the actual riding community.
Welcome! I think the CBR250r would be the perfect perch for a ride down The George Washington Parkway into the nation's capital. It's been a lot of years, but I enjoyed that drive in a car so much; can only imagine the views from a bike. Good luck in your class.

I usually go up the and down the part of the GW Parkway is upstream from DC, but I think I would enjoy being closer to the river on a bike on the downstream portion, especially near Mount Vernon. I'm also looking forward to exploring some other Virginia roads like Skyline Drive.
