I too thought about getting a gear indicator...I'm a newbie rider. It's easy to judge the gear on a manual car just by feeling the position of the shifter with your hand. On a motorcycle...not so much. I ultimately decided against it as I would prefer to learn the sound of the motor and keep my eyes on the road.
Sorry about that. You just need to be in the gear that feels best for you at the speed you're riding at. That's all that really matters. With experience, you'll get to know when it's time to change gear. Numbers aren't as important as how the bike feels.
Haha, I think so...but being a newb rider with all these distractions of clutch, shift, gas, clutch, blinker, hand brake, foot brake, cancel blinker, am I speeding...well you get it...
I have one on my cbr125r that the wife uses, she has just got her L's so it makes it abit Easyer for her as she is blonde & counting isn't one of her strong points lol.
The RPM / MPH ratio pretty much says it all, and the bike has that as standard equipment. Still, there are times when a gear indicator would be nice.
It seems to me that this type of retrofit isn't worth the work or expense, and would be prone to error.
Just a hunch.
Took me about 2 months to realize that a gear indicator was redundant. Your ears your feet and your butt will tell you if you are in the right gear. Spend the money on protective apparel.
I've found that going from one bike to the next, you have to relearn the engine sound/feel method. I rode a harley sportster for a few weeks while my VFR was being repaired and that was a TOTALLY different experience.
You know Aufitt, I've been thinking about moving some of my money from Apple stock, and putting it into the CBR Anodized Farkle Industry. I think a guy could make a small fortune...
Replacing my muffler bearing with an aftermarket one netted me a .3 hp increase. A power band has got to be good for what? another .3-.4?
Add to that a painted anodized powdercoated plastidipped chrome plated polished high performance carbon heat shield and that's at least a full 1 hp boost.
Oh about the indicator thing. I rarely ever know what exact gear I'm in. But I always know if it's the wrong one
Same here regarding trying to go another gear up from 6th gear...Have thought many times a gear indicator would be nice to double check real quick in those instances..but they are alot of trouble to install on our bikes and are over $100...two strikes to the one plus in my book...I have decided I'll just keep trying to kick up to 7th gear
