My suggestion is to not over think it. Shift anywhere you want between idle and red line.

Where I shift depends on my mood and if Im in a hurry or not.

I agree with the rest, generally shift early for better mpg, shift late for more fun.

Depending on conditions, I can shift anywhere from 4.5k up to about the rev limiter. Not concerned about saving gas, this thing is cheap enough to not worry about gogo juice much. I just do what feels "appropriate".

I don't think about gas. I get 75ltr every month from my bank. but Rs. 74/ ltr. in India. Mango men can't afford it(added unnecessary extra line).

I will mention that I do make sure to shift early in low traction situations such as rain, just in case.

I just shift up when it feels right, rarely wring it out beyond 9k tho.

The bigger question is when to shift down, especially if hard on the brakes into a corner. Even with ABS I've had it step out from a compression lock-up quite a few times, so I'm pretty conscious to lean on the front brake, use the rear to balance the bike only and shift down late.

I remember reading about blipping the throttle on downshifts and while I can heel'n'toe pretty well in a car, I don't get how that works on a bike when you have to squeeze a lever and twist your wrist with the same hand. Any advice?

Check out this threat.....there may be more

2 finger braking, blipping throttle

I highly suggest perfecting this technique. It will solve the problems you seem to have for downshifting.

I barely use the 6th, most of the time i reach 100kmph with 5th and suddenly there were too many vehicles blocking my way..

We don't have highway in my city... Can I just sell that 6th?
