Default is this start up normal..??

hi guys,

i think there is sumthing bit odd wid my cbr which is been happening recently.

as u kno wen u turn the ignition key on, turn the kill switch on, wait for the buzzing sound, fire up the engine....engine starts normally at approx 1500 rpm (with no throttle) which is perfectly fine...rite..??

but i noticed wid mine in last few days...following exactly the same way as above, it automatically goes to 5000-5500 rpms and at times even more... for no apparent reason... isnt it a bit odd...??
and keeps at the same or gradually increases unless i pull the clutch n shift it to 1st gear... thats when it drops to 1500-1700rpms.
I waited for over 30 secs for it to come down to normal, no luck.

should i b concrnd abt it...is there any thing i m doing wrong ??
any1 out there has similar issue...??

Not normal. Get it into a dealer and have that bike checked out.

Probably the idle position sensor, if they're on these bikes. Take it in and have it fixed. That's not normal. When cold it really shouldn't go past 2-2.5K while warming up.

Yeah something is messed up with the idle thing, or your throttle cable is adjusted (to no foreplay? or negative?) such that no throttle is actually feeding the engine some fuel. Definitely get it checked out, let us know what it was.

+1, Definitely not normal. I'd be seriously concerned there's a flaw in the throttle position sensor or a stuck throttle cable or such. Could be an absolutely dangerous situation for you if it decided to do it while you're in motion.

Get it checked.

+1 for getting it in immediately. The buzz after you turn the key is the fuel system coming up.

Happens to me about 50% of the time when starting if it's less than about 12degC. A touch of the throttle and it goes back to 2000-2500 until it's warm.

Yeah, I've had it happen a couple times where the throttle just progressively keeps going up and up after I start the engine in the morning. I turn the throttle just a bit and it's fine. It's really only happened two or three times since I bought the bike back in mid-June, so if it's doing it every time I would be more concerned.
