Help! Bike starts but won't rev past 2500 rpm

Evening all. On a ride today bike began to lose speed. Pulled off road, inspected for any obvious issues, nothing visible. No leaks, smoke from exhaust, overheating issues, etc. Limped the three miles home at a max speed of 7mph. Seems like bike is not getting gas. Even holding throttle wide open it will only hit about 2500rpm. Noticed a ticking sound from engine. Any ideas? Checked the air intake to see if something had obstructed it but nothing. Bike is 12 CBR250 non abs w ~7k miles.

Has the bike been serviced recently?

No sir. Last service was Memorial Day of last year. Just an oil change. Roughly 750 miles ridden since then.

Hmm... so it's not the dreaded 'oil filter installed backwards' scenario, and you've ruled out the possibility of the intake snorkel being blocked. I'm stumped as to what the issue might be.

Did the Check Engine Light come on?

Had you been riding it prior to today, or was this your first time out this season?

No check engine light, have ridden prior to today. Roughly 150 miles or so this year.

I would pull the right side fairings and take a good look at the throttle cable adjustment.

That's what it sounds like to me...pull off the seat and make sure your manual bag or "tool kit" hasn't slid down blocking the air cleaner...keep us posted.

Will check throttle cable today. Would be nice if it was something relatively simple like that!

Checked throttle cable. No issues there. Double checked the air intake, just in case I had missed something and still no luck.
