That looks pretty strange... I'd find yourself a large washer which fits the slot in the cap, and use an adjustable wrench on the washer to loosen and remove the cap, so that you can check the condition of the cap o-ring. Not sure what that corrosion is about, though.
I imported this baby from the US to VietNam where the CBR is not sold officially so.... At least I have workshop nearby. Gonna let them check the bike this weekend, will report soon.
This is the crankcase access port (you open it to put a socket in and turn the crank to check the valve adjustment, etc.). I open it with a silver dollar. Clean everything up and grease the o-ring with dielectric grease before re-installing the port cover. Hopefully that will be all that you need to do.
Could have been splashed with brake fluid or some other corrosive liquid.
Its on both the cover and the access plug so isn't just poor finish on one component.
Thank you all for your replies. Been really busy with projects and stuff so forgot to update the case. So I washed it last Saturday, and this is what happened
after washing the finish just felt off !!!
The bike still ride ok and that's is getting weirder :-s
It still looks like there is damage to the seal and paint though? Did something get spilled on it? I'd also me keeping a close eye on it...but glad to see it appears to be only a surface issue.
How did you protect the bike from salt water moisture when you shipped it? The damage appears to be corrosion, and I'll bet from the boat trip you gave it.
that part I didn't notice.
Ordered a new pair of engine cover, man these tiny things are expensive
