I am on the oil change after the 600m service, but am almost to 4000 miles, so Ill probably be swapping it out soon.
If I were a betting man, I wager that you have burned the clutch friction plates, in which case an oil change won't correct your problem. You would need to have the clutch replaced. Here's the bad news: the Honda factory warranty will not cover clutch replacement either, as it is considered to be both a normal wear item, as well as easily subjected to abuse. Under normal use, friction plates don't become burned.

Well there was next to no oil in the bike, which is weird because I am only at 4K miles.

I must drive this thing really hard.

Cleaning the chain and checking the clutch tomorrow.

Or your service person didn't put the correct amount of oil in it at the first service...using up that much oil in 3000miles sounds pretty unbelievable?

Could be. Its supposed to snow tonight, so ill have to wait till tomorrow to see if it makes a difference with the ride.

I changed out the oil filter as well.

IS there any other maintenance I should perform before taking a long trip? I think im going to do a 1200 mile ride in a day and a half around christmas.

Having a bike for 4k miles without ever checking oil level is also pretty unbelievable. Probably checking while on the sidestand anyway.

Fresh oil change and fresh chain maintenance and the problem persists.

Its probably the plates, but I dont want to spend the money to have the dealer do that right now, they rob ya.
