I wonder if this may also be causing the engine shut off problem on heavy braking. Usually those type of devices have some sort of damping fluid in them.

I was doing some work on my offset plates when I came across another rattle.

the washer on the back of the rear brake pivot rattles between the brake lever and the circlip.

, that's what i said on the original rattle thread back in the day !!

then Aufiit was like: "some say this , some say that , how bout y'all just ride the dam thing" ...or something along those lines ....and he was right !!

but after installing sato rearsets , still heard the faint rattle from the front upper , that's when i gave up and took his advise....until now.

good find Jme .... now i know that one wasn't just me

after that we agree that single cylinder bikes vibrate more than other motors ...

... and that safety checks for this model are a must ......on a weekly basis

I'm pretty sure Goldwing bank angle sensors do (or at least did) have damping fluid inside. In fact, a while back, Goldwings were recalled because the damping fluid would weap or even evaporate out of them through porous case, and cause the bike to stall out over bumps. That's why I was midly surprised when I had the front apart to find the angle sensor sounded to have no oil in it. Maybe to keep the price under $4000 and with the price of oil so high, Honda decided to not put oil in it.

I like how we're all casually glancing over this thread like it's passe' when it's probably the most debated topic with this bike to date. This should be a sticky for all the new members that sign up just to investigate this issue. It's possibly more common than exhaust threads.

turbo - remember reading about that recall after street sniper raised
the tilt sensor as a 'rattler' here,, apparently the sensor case
was porous enough to allow the oil to seap/soak into it..
[would have thought honda would be onto that]

also some have tried adding oil to sensors without oil,
including adding 'thicker' oil, to reduce movement
of the ball which moves in response to tilting
[and may 'rattle' around due to engine vibration]..

after riding the bike today ... she's rattle free !!

when the sensor was in , i could pay with the RPM to hear this faint rattle , but now that i try it...no rattle. !!

she sounds like a little thumper without the "something is loose" noise

can't stress how much better she rides but im still going to try neutralize the sensor with silicone to plug it back in so the engine light clears off

sniper - on another forum possibly 600rr, they also went into this same
tilt sensor incl how to neutralize it variously, without disturbing other
electronics etc.. various methods discussed and explained there..

perhaps google 'tilt sensor' [plus '600rr'] for heaps of responses..

I understand the opinion that this is a single cylinder, they're supposed to rattle like crazy, just ride it and shut up blah, blah, blah.........

So that's what I usually do especially when riding to work or on a long ride because I wear earplugs and I don't hear it anyway. However, sometimes I enjoy riding around town at slower speeds without earplugs and I like to hear the mechanical music of the engine. It's one of the reasons I bought a motorcycle - to listen to the wonderful Honda soundtrack. In this case the 5500 rpm rattle is like a speaker that buzzes at certain frequencies - it ruins the experience just a little, not much, but a little.

I have fixed the headlight-fairing buzz and I added rubber washers under the foot pegs. So I guess I will also investigate this sensor as well if it might eliminate this on my bike.

But for now, keep the thread alive!! Wooo hoooo
