With all of you guys mentioning that the dealer overfilled the oil, I went and checked mine after the 600 mile service. It's overfull! I'm thinking of taking an old turkey baster and a piece of hose and sucking it out of the fill hole.

Can't remember off the top of my head what the total oil capacity is for the engine, but I would be dollars to donuts that these guys are just putting in an even number of quarts instead of stopping short.

The capacity is probably designed to be in liters and when you use quarts you end up with too much.

I think that the oil, even at the normal level, covers the sight glass when sitting on the side stand.

When your bike is on the side stand you should not see any oil in the sight glass. When you stand it up it should almost fill the sight glass.

When it comes to servicing my motorcycles, the only greasy paws that touch them are my greasy paws.

Word. Get a service manual, and some tools and educate yourself. It'll all pay itself off after just one service. After that you are just keeping your money... which you could spend for other things on the bike!

I purchased my sprocket from PMP Sprockets for $20.20 after shipping and taxes. The dealer charged me 1/2 hour rate which was $45.00 to install the sprocket. Heck they didn't even understand why I was even going from 14T to a 15T

One of the joys of buying a used bike is that you don't trust anything, so you change the oil, bleed the brakes installing fresh brake fluid, check/fix brake pads, valves, adjust chain if needed, etc. This helps you get familiar with the bike very quickly and you adjust stuff to fit the way you ride.

Obviously, you order the shop manual before registering the bike.

Good luck however you go with it.

Default Service

My 250 cbr was serviced in Thailand at the dealer i purchased from ,
they changed the oil filter checked lights brakes and chain and told me no need to check valves , also let me me watch the bike being serviced so i could see what the mechanic was doing.
My bill was three hundred and fifty bahts , (£7 british pounds)
the garage has a very good reputation and i could see many large bikes being serviced or repaired and every thing looked very professional , this is my second new honda and i am a sixty year old novice rider so i feel happy .
