Default Question about service

Hey guys .. I just got my bike today.. n upon reading the service manual I was a little confused... now it says my 1st service is to be done at 1000 kms... 2nd at 6000 and 3rd at 12000... that sounds like alot of riding between services .. is that right ???

In a word, yes. The first service is really a shakedown check to make sure nothing is coming loose and everything is breaking in as usual. Adjusting for cable stretch, loose fairing fasteners and valve shim clearance. After that everything should be business as usual.

Interesting, the Australian manual (that I have anyway) does not include a 6 month / 6,000 km service. It has the 1000km service, and then the 12 month / 12,000 km service. Looking at the manuals online, that pdf has a 6 month / 6,000 km service which simply lists:

Cleaning the crank case breather (mines always clean)
Inspecting idle speed (still at the 1400rpm it was off the floor)
Inspecting brake fluid and pad wear (fluid perfect, pads look okay)
Inspecting the clutch system (feels good, and free play is ~10mm at the ball end)

It lists nothing else. All of which I can do in 10 minutes (see above), and are fine. It looks more like a pre-ride check haha.

I have mine booked in for this "service" (which the dealer scheduled at the first service, despite it not being in my owners manual) Friday. It had better be darn cheap.
