I'm thinking about riding year round through the winter. It won't be long soon and I'm looking for tips in how to prepare myself and my bike for the colder temperatures. I'll probably be riding in 30 degrees Fahrenheit on a regular basis during the colder months.
If anyone else rides year round I'd appreciate any advice you guys could give me. I know layers are important and I'd really like specific product recommendations also. It'd be good to know what works well and what doesn't. I'm not too fond of hooking up electrical heating gear to my bike but I'll consider it. Also would it be a good idea to get a 3/4 jacket or should I just later up with the one I already have? I don't want to spend a crazy amount of money.
I'm also wondering how to properly maintain my bike during the colder months. Should I change oil or coolant, etc. how do I wash it if it's cold? Should I just wait until it gets above freezing to wash? Sometimes we can get temps in the high 40's and maybe even in the 50's so I guess that'd be okay.
If you guys are wondering why I'd want to ride when it's cold, it's because I love riding my motorcycle and I want to give it a try. It's just so much more fun than taking the car and if I can keep my body warm, then I'd love to go for it. I appreciate any advice I can get and look forward to hearing from some of you.
