now what i am very surprised is: my bike is completely fine and verified by honda that its fine. But her lexus isnt fine.

Thats just weird now because the front of my bike is completely plastic. If her vehicle has any problems, my bike shouldve been totaled.. or has significant amount of damage.

Normally, bent forks are the result of your type of accident. Take a meter stick and see if both of the upper (triple tree and immediately below) parts are alligned with the lower forks. You may have to remove some fairing parts to check this, so look for cracks and "extra bits" as you unbutton the bike.

Good luck, I hope that everything is still fine.

Not sure I get this? Your bike is not completely fine - it has a smashed mud guard. Her car has a scratched bumper. On many newer cars, as the bumpers are plastic, if the scratch is more than a light mark which can be buffed out, then it's either a whole new bumper (+labour!) or a whole re-paint. Either is easily $600.

I recently had an accident in my 2000 Pulsar...new bumper/front grill/headlight and replace AC mount/re-gas: $2500, and all those parts were after-market for a *Pulsar*...let alone a Lexus.

The Police only (and must!) be involved if a reasonable guesstimate of total repairs amount to over $1000.

Still, I think you did the right thing in talking to them to be on the safe side, as well as the detailed agreement - nice work.

thats the end of this matter. The agreement has been signed by me and the other party, witnessed by 2 people: my friend and the other party's solicitor.

Money handed over, thats it.

i'm just glad no permanent damage was done to the bike. the front fender tip is the least of my concerns.. super glue that back on and its as good as new.

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions and replies

Don't sweat the bike because any machine is fixable / replaceable. Just order a new front fender (it will come painted) and pop it on. Definitely take it to the dealer for a thorough inspection and explain the new rattling noise you discovered. My guess is it's the fender, but ya' never know so have it looked at.

Regarding the above statement about following closely - a 1.5 bike's length allows you almost zero reaction time. That's only about 8'-9', unless I'm reading that wrong. Rule of thumb at any speed is a full 4-second count to the vehicle in front of you.

I'm not lecturing, ya I'm a new rider (on the street anyway) but going through the MSF program I've been studying these tips & stats obsessively lately.

I'm glad you're ok, someone was watching over you for sure. Be safe-

i guess this is a very late reply but erm I may have gotten my measurements wrong. if I recall it correctly id say the distance (probably still not enough to fully prevent this issue) is about 2-3 cars. dunno what i was thinking when i said 1.5bike's length coz that is VERY short lol. if it was 1.5 bike's length i should be in hospital.

anyway the rattle somehow disappeared as I rode more after a few days gone past since the incident, i took it back to my dealer to have a safety check and they did it for free! so awesome. they also took the bike out for a ride and found no problems either. no damage was found except for that front fender tip thing which I super glued it back on and it became like new again.

but this was about 3 months ago.

I have learnt a valuable lesson. never tailgate others especially when ur on a bike. since that incident I have never tailgated another person whether in a car or on the bike.

thanks everyone though for your valuable opinions.

Dave
in SA it's $3000 or if any persons or were injured, or if any vehicle/s have to be towed away from the scene

Good man blob2004! Glad you're ok, glad your bike is back in action!

At the BRC 1 & 2 classes, I was taught that a 4 second following distance from cars and 2 seconds for other motorcycles (for example when riding in a group) are the safe minimums. And that is under ideal road & weather conditions. 4 sounds like a long time on paper but if you count it out on the road it makes sense. I use even longer times at highway speeds.

Stay safe & take care-
