There's 2013's in Melbourne mate, Maybe not SA yet but I was at the dealer Saturday and they had 2 2013 Repsol 250r's and 1 Full Red.
Black wheels and everything, I'll take a photo if you want on Monday.
Lol... you don't have to take a photo, we believe you (that, and we know what they look like ). You're likely seeing the '13 250's released down under now, as you Aussie's are coming into your prime riding season, yes? Here in North America most motorcycles are tucked away for winter, except for those lucky enough to live in the more temperate climates (like myself ), and a few die hard souls farther north. It only makes sense that new bikes would be released first in parts of the world where people will be buying them now. Here in the U.S., come next spring, dealers in the southern states will see shipments of new motorcycles ahead of the dealers in the northern parts of the country. I'd think that Honda dealers in sunny southern California will be the first to have 2013's on their showroom floors in the U.S.
I think Honda dealers need to allow test rides, in my area the d***bag salesman laugh at you when you mention a test ride, and Demo days are uncommon. HD, Victory allow test rides, heck the local BMW dealer will let me test ride a GS 650 over nite.
I like the sound of CBR500 but I'd be apprehensive to buy one without a test ride. I bought the 250 without test riding only because it was too good of a deal. Looking forward to this year's International Moto show to se what else will be in the market.

A dealer by me quit doing test rides because people were crashing the bikes. I was there one day waaaayy back when a guy was testing a big Ninja, can't remember but think it was a ZX-9, he popped the clutch and the bike wheelied out from underneath him and almost went right into the main road..salesman was pissssed.

I was only speaking of how Honda releases new model info, at least here in the U.S...American Honda Motor Co. doesn't do the big "dog & pony show" dealer meetings where they show off all their new models, like some of the other manufacturers do. This is due in large part to the fact that Honda releases new models at various times of year, instead of all at once.

not all the time. about a month before kawasaki released the ninja 300 my dealer said that there was going to be a new ninja with a 300cc engine and fuel injection so they usually find out one way or another what's happening in terms of new model releases
They get early news from forums the same way we do. Someone on the Ninjette site posted about the Ninja300 6 months ago and everyone mocked him as being impossible even though he had seen them riding on the road in Thailand for testing.

I don't blame him for being pissed. I bet that guy lost whatever discount he was about to get.
Allowing people to "test" bikes they aren't familiar riding on... wow that's brave.
