Like I said, we are all selfish. If we disproportionally use a finite resource without care of when we will run out we are selfish. Maybe its because we don't realize the situation that we are in or we think that technology is going to save us. Americans are the most selfish in that respect, due to the fact that we use the most oil in the world and at least half of it is imported, although China is quickly catching us. We as a world should realize that we are going to need this oil to last as long as possible and do everything we should to conserve. Some of us take this approach, even if its to save money, while others don't. Of course Im not advocating buying a new car just to get better gas mileage, in most cases (not all) the people I was referring to could easily afford cars with good gas mileage but they choose to drive huge SUV's instead.
Just because were selfish in one area doesn't mean were bad people. I know that everyone on this site is a good person, I would consider myself to be as well but that doesn't mean Im not selfish in my energy use.
If you don't understand the fuel crisis that we are or going to experience then watch "The end of Suburbia". It talks about the peak oil production in america that happened in the 1970's and predicts the world oil peak production that has already happened or will happen soon. Past peak oil, gas prices will only increase due to smaller supply than the demand.
In America during WWII we conserved everything for the war effort, but since that time we have not conserved anything and it is causing us to run out of things faster than we should. Its funny how in America, we complain about the gas prices while driving around an SUV and paying a lower price than Europe, while consuming more than every other country. I guess most of us wont care until we run out.

I don't think any of us shd call each other selfish. None of us really know each other. Who of us does volunteer work? Who of us feed the hungry, make monetary donations, grow our own veggies, recycle, reuse etc. This info usually doesn't become known on a motorcycle forum. I think (not that it matters) such statements are judgmental. Not wise to point a finger, really. (And not nice)(
Since you ask, at least a quarter, probably a third of my meagre income goes on acts of charity of one way or another (though not stuff I can claim tax back on)...... something that I can afford to do (albeit not always willingly) because -
(1) I have no debt, and never have.
(2) I ride a small motorcycle (and a bicycle). Typically I use less than three gallons of gasoline a month.
I won't bother bragging with the boring details.

Now, go back to your thread about why people like small bikes.
Patrician Dad tries to put a "foreign" pleb in his place by bragging about the elitist good deeds of his kids. Go back to dreaming of your next gas guzzling motor bicycle, for when you have learned on your starter ride.
It is good to see that there are at least some who chose to ride a small motorcycle for benevolent reasons, among others. Some have simply discovered small bikes are fun..... cool!

I am a new rider and I bought this bike because it was a great value and looks awesome. Cheaper insurance was a plus too. What I keep hearing though is all these people making fun of my bike. Thing is I just look them in the eye and tell them it's what I wanted and you just can't beat 70-80 miles a gallon. Besides, I fly Blackhawks for a living so I get my need for speed taken care of. Funny how days later I've had people stop me and tell me they did a search on the Internet and are now looking for a cbr250 for commuting.

I am selfish, I ride a 2 stroke 4 cylinder that pours premix thru the carbs at 15-20mpg and puts holes in the ozone layer faster Mt Niriyagongo.
But Oh the fun.
I have no problem with that.... I have done similar, enjoyed it, and likely will do again. Oh the joy of a Kwaker Mach III on a straight. A bit worrying come time to haul on the brakes, or take on a corner.
I make no claim to be a saint. Overall your attitude is more benevolent and down to earth than some here.

You going post up a couple photos of that RZV for us Aufitt? That's not you're "run of the mill motorcycle" that you get to see every day...
BTW, I burned nearly 2 gallons of gas yesterday riding my XR on some nice single tracks up in the mountains for no purpose other than to have some fun... that doesn't make me a selfish, bad person does it?
