I have no doubt that you are not a moron... don't be so hard on yourself. The world is full of people who are ready to do that for you.

My take on starting threads:
In the larger context of "new threads", starting one with a misleading title is probably at the top of the list in terms of what people will find annoying, mainly because it is so blatant. A thread that is worthy of being started doesn't need a gimmick to draw viewers to it, just a clear and understandable title.

Second on the list of New Thread Annoyances has to be the redundant thread... it smacks of an unwillingness to use the search function, or just plain laziness. I like to dig up old threads, and after reading the thread add my thoughts to the discussion. It's kind of cool when old threads are brought back to the top of the forum and people (often newer members)add to them. To me, it's the replies to a thread that are often way more interesting than perhaps the original question posed by the thread OP.

Third, IMO, are threads (often redundant) that are started in the wrong forums. Like starting a "Which oil to use?" thread in the General Discussion forum... it's not like there isn't 47 threads on the topic over in Service & Maintenance already. Again, why not just add to an existing discussion?

Just my two cents worth... thanks for indulging me.

Moto...I have the same annoyance hierarchy, but I do try to cut folks some slack on the redundant threads if they are new users. I assume that it isn't unwillingness or laziness in those cases, but rather a lack of understanding on how a site like this works. I try to politely inform them of the search function and give my best answer, if I have one, to the question at hand. Same new users who need to be directed to the owner's manual.
