I've probably been unclear. Of course, flat spots can happen, but they shouldn't be an issue; if the tire isn't old, the next time it's ridden to operating temps the sidewalls will flex and the flat spot will be resolved. If the tire is old enough that it doesn't resolve itself, that tire should have already been replaced.
The reason I've never seen it is probably that I ride far enough that I change tires often and don't wind up with old tires . . . .
