you've been riding one for a year and you decide that your first post on a CBR250r forum should be about getting rid of it? You've gone this far without our help....carry on

I have a ninja 650 and it sits very comfortably even compared to the cbr250. Its perfect fpr any lengthy ride but when i get back on the 250 i like feeling like a racer again. The 650 has plenty of even power, theres no crazy burst but its definitely fast and much smoother.

Have you looked at, or were you even aware of the all new 2013 CBR500R?

Kinda off topic, but saw and sat on a CBR500. Riding position is certainly more upright, compared to a CBR250R. Also, the actual bike looks pretty nice than in pictures.

Why do you feel like moving up? What's wrong with the 250?

A lot of people think the natural progression from the 250R is the 600RR. However, the LOGICAL progression is you should be able to try out different bikes and choose for yourself what you want. You've been riding for a year now, you should at least have an inkling of what it is you're looking for.

Believe it or not, there are other bikes that aren't supersports. Have you tried riding a standard? A cruiser? A dual-sport? A tourer?

If you'll never hit the track or do any racing, there's really no need for a supersport besides trying to look badass (which usually doesn't end well). They're expensive to buy, ride, and maintain compared to others.

Don't be brand loyal. Branch out and try other manufacturers. Bike shopping can be a very fun learning experience.

You're putting a lot of thought into this decision and that is always a good sign. Asking the internet (especially a motorcycle forum) just means you're asking people for their opinions, another good thing.

My answer - you want to move up from the 250, fair enough, but what I'm hearing most is your concern about comfort & riding position. If that's the case, you won't be very comfy on a supersport, despite the 600 being an awesome machine.

Use the winter to visit dealers and really check out your options. Check out different bikes. Your criteria for your next bike sounds similar to mine, and currently I'm feeling the new 500r is perfect - same riding position & mpg as our 250 but basically 2x the power. Much less $ to insure too.

Take your time, enjoy the search (I think it's fun), and always enjoy whatever you're riding at the moment even if you're looking ahead.

I have become convinced that the world really is going to end on the 21st. Mostly just because my vacation starts on the 22nd.

The fact that you are asking about the CBR600RR, it sounds to me that you 1) really wants to upgrade to the 600 and 2) you are not ready. There is nothing you can do on the 250 that will prepare for the HP increase in a supersport 600. The gap between is huge for some. Go for a Ninja 650 or a CBR500. That's doubling the HP of the 250 with a comfortable ergo.

I am not going to try and convince you that your choice is wrong, it is your life. I would ask that you consider the cost. In addition to any larger bike that will get you into trouble much faster, there is the cost.

Insurance at your age will be more.

A CBR250r gets 70+ mpg, any 600+ bike is going to get below 50, unless you ride real gently (then why bother

Tires and all maintenance will be more, maybe double.

I am "upgrading" from my totaled Triumph Daytona 675 which I rode for 24K miles over 5 years to a CBR250r which I hope to keep for 10+ years.

I loved the bike, but unless you plan to spend time on the track, it is allot of wasted power.

ps, if you have time, go ride the bikes. During Bike Week at Daytona and allot of bike events around the country you can ride any bike with a valid license. Some dealer allow demo rides too.

That 650 is even more upright than our 250s. The 650 is a nice in between. The new 500s would be a good choice too. I personally wouldn't get a 600 anything for a daily driver, if that's what you're looking for. A weekend or toy machine, yes. Lots of fun. Everyday commuting, heck no. Unless you like being in the pushup position.
