i can upgrade to windows 8 but i do not like the interface. i mainly use arch Linux as my primary operating system and dual boot windows 7 for gaming.
When Vista came out, I thought it was so appalling, I ran Ubuntu on my home PC for about a year. I then came across the Hackintosh software, and tried it on an old laptop, and thought that it was brilliant. I then decided to look at Mac's. I was dithering whether to buy one or not, and popped down to my local PC World to have a play on one. I noticed that they had a 24" iMac, end of line on sale for £900, which was pretty good, because the list price was £1150 at the time. I went back home, and decided to buy it. I rushed back to the store, took it to the checkout, and the member of staff told me that it wasn't for sale for the price displayed on the shelf. I asked him how much, and he said £850. I bought it, and I'm typing this post on it now, still a satisfied customer. It should last me another 4 years or so, and if things don't go really wrong in the Apple camp within that time, I'll be getting myself another.

apples are nice, but i will never own one due to there cost, not a fan of there os as well, but i havent got to use it for long. i was brought up on windows until i discovered linux, made the change(and it was a rough one) and never looked back. i prefer custom built rigs for my desktops. and have just one laptop running arch linux i use when needed.

I've tried quite a few Linux distro's but I've never used (or heard of) Arch. I'll give it a go on my old laptop sometime.

if you dont know much about linux, you will after you install and build a gui for your copy. when you first install it all you get is a command line, you have to pretty much install the basic gui and build it to suit your needs. you can install a pre-built copy called arch-bang that already has a gui built

Thanks for the link, but I don't have the patience, or the inclination to go through all that. In my mind, an operating system should make it as easy as possible to interact with with the hardware. I'm reasonably computer savvy, but I tend to go for the path of least resistance, when it comes to using them.

i can understand that lol. i go with whatever i like best, love messing around with computers, servers, and networks. anything new that i can find i mess around with till i ether get bored with it or find something else to move on to.
TBH, I prefer the larger cabled Mac keyboard, with numeric keypad and 2 extra USB ports, but I thought that it'd be a real waste of money if the cat took a shine to that as well.
