Whoot, last Friday I passed my "R-date" license test, so no L-plates for me .
It was threatening rain all morning throughout the practice sessions, and sure enough it poured down the moment we lined up for the test. I choose to do it on my bike, rather than their little suzuki's . They tried to talk me out of it haha - "only 1 in 10 passes on a bike like that" - because of the very tight back to back uturns inside a 5m x 10m box which on the CBR requires instant full locks and significant leans to make it. But it was all good, only 1 minor hiccup - darn nerves lol.
LOL, they wanted us in 3rd gear for some maneuvers...at 30kph...I just popped the CBR up to third and popped her back down to second for show as it hurt me to her her luuuuggggg! The instructor was cool with that .
Was scary watching some of the dudes...wobbling around, feet down, didn't even have their own helmet to wear...
Happy days!
Dave

great work Dave! how many points did you incur and which one did you stuff up on? pretty impressive that you passed it on the lil' cbr
do they use suzuki's now, i remember they had the yamaha scorpios when i was there and a couple of yamaha trail bikes too. did you have ABS on your bike? if you did you should have hit the brakes as hard as possible in the emergency braking exercise and then stick up your finger saying "sucked in, my brakes don't lock up" just to show how that exercise will be useless in the coming years with the amount of ABS bikes approaching.
and yeah, some of the people doing the course are hopeless on a bike, makes you wonder how they passed their L's course did any/many people fail in your course?

basically an L-plate is something learner car drivers and motorcyclists must display on their vehicle to warn drivers they are a learner, kinda like this but ours are yellow with a black 'L' - i think this is in the UK:
R-DATE is the type of licensing we have which you receive when you pass the course Dave just passed. R means full motorcycle license, R-DATE means you can get your full unrestricted license after a certain date so on Dave's license it will have R-07/12/2013 which means he can receive his full license in a year from when he got his licesne endorsed after passing the test. Until then, he can only ride underpowered bikes that comply with the Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme (LAMS) which is bikes with a capacity of 660cc or less but with a power to weight ratio not exceeding 150kw/tonne which means 600cc supersports etc. aren't approved because their power to weight exceeds the limit despite their capacity not. So the fz6r and ninja 650rl are approved over here
By the way, just to rub it in Dave, i get my full unrestricted bike license in about 2 weeks
Possibly getting an R6 in the next couple of weeks too, can't wait!

Hehe, I nudged the line in the left Uturn...rights easy peasy by a foot or so, but the immediate switch to the left and coming off of the right uturn means I ran a little wide in the test.
LOL, I also nudged the first line in the "S weave" LOLOLOLOL...I can do that with my eyes shut, no idea what happened ROFLOL. Felt life a total idiot haha.
All the rest no problems .

Hahaha...was easy enough even without the ABS - it didnt fire up and I stopped in the wet in about 5-6m tops even in the rain. One dude totally locked it..all we heard was "Errrrrrrrrrrkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!" LOL.

One dude, the lockup king above. I actually got hardly any "practice" in the drills coz I got stuck behind him...I got frustrated and cocky in the decreasing radius drill...rode in at 20kph+ and just winged a cone with my toe on the final end of the spiral. Pulled my head in after that hehe.

haha did the lockup king fall off or did he pull it together? i had one guy in my group who dropped one of their bikes and i think it was in my L's course, no it was P's, i just remembered some chick had the bike revving crazy and she let off the clutch and the bike left her and stood up and flipped and dropped straight onto the ground. They were stationary and listening to their instructor and then suddenly you hear this revving and bamn, you hear a crash of a bike hitting the tarmac lol, she was in the other range so it wasn't as scary but entertaining nonetheless. She got asked to leave haha

congrats to both of you. how many demerits are you allowed in the first year.
it's a confusing system, it doesn't go by year but by the type of license. The test Dave passed i also passed last year but we are on different licenses. He is on his full license and i am on my P's but we are still both restricted to LAMS bikes. It's confusing but to answer your question:
On your L's and P's you can incur a maximum of 4 before your license goes on a temporary holiday, full license you get 12 which resets after 3 years.
