The 500r is what I expected really but if a person is using this bike as a step up to the super sport then I say, don't waste your money and just make the jump....unless you have money to burn. IIMO I feel the 500r is more of a first bike choice for those who may feel the 250 is too small. Or for those that have no interest in the SS category.

I am disappointed in the nose piece of the 600rr. Sadly I think it is a retro look that doesn't fly with me.

I am still looking at the 2011 600rr.

It's about what you want in a bike, I actually have a CBR 600RR (I only joined here because I was searching the net for info on the 500 and came across this thread) and I'm looking to downgrade for want of a better phrase. I bought the ss for the look not because I needed over 100 hp. I don't really need the 175 mph top speed I could get out of it, in fact I can't remember the last time I went over 100 MPH.
So I ask myself, Why Am I riding a bike that is costing me big bucks to maintain, fuel and insure when if I'm honest, I'm using it more for posing reasons and the overall look of it rather than for what it can do.
You're talking twice the money at the end of the day so make sure you're buying it for the right reasons.
Mine will be going and a mid size bike will be coming my way

@ IDDO..... If I don't buy the bike for its looks, seating position, light weight and increased power.... What wld be the right reason then?? Are these not some of the reasons that play into a vehicle choice?

I do thank you for your input. If the 600rr has turned out not to be the right choice for you then it is good you have an alternative choice.

Until the bike is purchased and sitting in my garage I can still change my mind. So far, it's on my radar.

The CBR500R is $6000 in the USA. $5500 for the CB500F and price yet to be determined for the 500X. It looks like the peg location is pretty aggressive on the CBR. It should be pretty fuel efficient with a square bore/ stroke. Low compression also. Too bad about the weight. It would have been nice if they could have kept it under 400 pounds.

I'm curious what the CB500 serie will do compared with the nc 700.

Average should be about the same I guess? Expect the NC 700 to be a bit better on the superslab.

My point was not to put you off, just give you something to think about. if money wasn't important I'd probably keep mine, but as it is I have to ask myself if I really need this kind of bike or would an alternative suit my needs while costing less.

if money is not an issue for you and your heart is set on it then great, I'm sure you'll love it

Fuel economy and bottom end torque will be class leading on both the NC700 and all of the 500's. I wonder if the redline will even top 10,000? Probably not given the 67mm stroke.

Just doing some power to weight calculations of CBR 500 vs 300R

Ninja 300 - 29kw divided by 180kg wet weight = 0.16kw per kg
CBR 500 - 35kw divided by 195kg wet weight = 0.18kw per kg

not a huge difference, these are EU bike stats though, if the website I posted before is true then non EU markets would get 40 kw bikes which would be 0.20kw per kg

I don't think you are going to see 50hp from the CBR500R with a 9,000 rpm redline and 67mm stroke. That is a bottom end/ fuel economy engine tuned just right to barely make it to the 47hp limit.

Doesn't anyone else like the look of the new CBR600RR? I think it looks fantastic.

Not I. That front end is horrid. I keep looking at it because it is just...so...bad. (See also: Train wreck)
