I'm really liking the looks of the CB500F. My only concern would be how big of a power jump from my Ninja 250 it would actually be. I'v always wanted the Ninja 650, but this is more in my price range and looks better IMO.
I'm interested to see what the torque curve ends up looking like. I'm not a big high rev type rider, (I barely rev my Ninja 250 over 8k, usually only hit 9 on the highway), so if this bike has a lot of low end go I'll be one of the first in line.
On a side note,
I actually like the one light on, one light off look. I feel it gives the bikes some character.

What pique'd my interest was:
"Optional accessories include sidecases, a 35-liter top box, hand guards, heated grips, centerstand and a taller windscreen in addition to a bunch of bolt-on pieces with the look of carbon fiber."
They're not listed on the American Honda site (yet) but imagine they might be similar to the 700x's. Would love a center stand, taller windscreen and top box - hmm, seems I am starting to get interested - and wow, plenty of time to start saving too
I also like that the 500x has the mirrors mounted on the bars, but from the pics the pegs look awfully high, does anyone else think it looks cramped or is it just me?
i wonder if there is a restrictor kit in it like the ninja 650rl? but then again if that was the case would they release a restricted and unrestricted model or would this pass LAMS unrestrcted? i'm guessing it's passed with no restrictionon the power, and just that's it's on the upper limit like the cb400 etc. i guess we'll have to wait and see
It shouldn't be restricted. The 54hp model still falls under the LAMS power to weight regs - the non-abs CB500F has 143kw/tonne using what i think i remember the regs are (wet weight + 90kg rider).
I hope we get at least 54hp.
Any thoughts on the potential trackability of these bikes? Too heavy / underbraked?

As a fellow N250 rider ('09, Blue), if you rarely rev over 8-9k, you'll see a huge improvement in that low-mid range with the 500. I'd basically bet my life on it. You're also missing the fun of the N250 powerband, imo, but that's another discussion.
But back on track here, with a peak torque of around 30 ft/lb, and a very square bore/stroke ratio, I'm willing to bet most of that 30 number is accessible just off idle to around 8-9k rpm - in other words, the rev range you prefer to ride in.
meaning is in the meat of 'irrelevant' not the preamble..
dismissing peoples [motorcyclists] opinions based on
simplistic assumptions of their "crap" city etc,
or their equal right to hold any opinion,
is easy enough to understand..

Don't try to change the meaning of your statement after you've made it; you were quite clear, and you misunderstood my meaning. He took a dig, I took a dig, you were stupid, end of subject. Let's not go on about it.

I mean I keep the N250 up much higher in the power band when I'm riding for fun, but when I'm just commuting I rarely shifter higher than 8k, typically I shift at 7k. So I think these new 500s are going to be perfect for me.

The pegs on the CBR500R are really high and rear set for what is meant to be an all around bike.

yeah, you're right mate. Just did the math and Honda have done their homework, it came in at 148kw/tonne for me.
It's the: ddddddddddddddddddddddddddengine power (kW)
ddddddddddddddddddddddd_________________________________ x1000
ddddddddddddddddddddddddtare weight + (90kg for rider and fuel)
so it's dddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddDD40
ddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddDD_______ x1000
ddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddDD180 x 90
= approximately 148kw/tonne
so it won't be restricted then and will be one of the most powerful lams bikes out there, maybe more powerful than the ninja 650rl lams model because it's restricted
