Thanks, I was obviously looking in the wrong area...

LAMS doesn't mean much in WA at the moment; and I hope (expect) to have my full R class licence by the time it does anyway so I'm not really concerned with LAMS or non-LAMS.

What I am looking for is a nice affordable commuter bike and I am partial to nakeds, so this is now definitely on the list of possibilities. I would hazard a guess at saying that you wouldn't see as many on the roads either, so it would stand out more

I have always liked the street triple, but the purchase price and insurance put it at the top of the scale. The ER-6n was/is a tempting cheaper alternative, but was being beaten by the CB500X - however the KTM could be a cool and unique option...

ABS as standard and less than 150kg fully fueled; this is a very tempting bike! Registration in WA would be a little bit cheaper as well (rego is based on weight).

As they say in the bikepoint article - "Look out Honda CB500…"

I think I will be keeping a close eye on this - will be interested to see the price.

the 500s are shown here: Motorcycle Ergonomics
The Honda has a lot of room, closer to the kwak 650r in riding position, not very aggressive. The ninja 500 has much more leaned forward riding position.

The cbr250 is closer to the ninja 300 riding position. At this point the ninja 300 looks more fun to me than the cbr500r.

The x model has a ton of room and looks like a neat solo touring bike. I would probably be temped to step up to the 700 automatic at that rate, though.

Wow! Cycle-ergo is quick to get these new bikes listed. The new 500's don't have the pegs set back as far as the press photos make them look.

I was hoping the CBR500R would have some more forward lean, but it is less than the very upright N250 & N300. It's actually near-identical to the C14, believe it or not. That is a little disppointing to me personally, but I'm sure the bars can be modded/lowered. Knee angle looks great though. Thanks for posting this. Now we just need someone to dyno one of these, and we'll have pretty much all the information we need, short of riding one.

Stopped by the cycle shop for the first time in about two months today. Asked about the CBR500 and the manager there said he hasn't gotten any official word from Honda yet as to when to expect delivery or even when they can place orders. However he did add my phone number to a very long list of names to call when he finds out. He said there's been a ton of interest in it already. He said he would expect the first bikes to arrive somewhere around the end of the year or early January. Anyone talk to their dealership about it yet?

Also if I was interested in the N650, now would be the time. They had three 2012s in stock on sale for $6,500! Also got to see the N300 for the first time up close today.
