point mentioning euro cup etc, some seem fixated on
stat of 47 [apparently restricted] horsepower and
claimed wet weight of 420lb..
some sites claim 54hp [unrestricted] engines [?]
whatever,, that performance, hp, weight mods
and tuning etc will flow from euro cup [just one eg]
make base model off the floor stats virtually temporary
realities,, when you consider existing aftermarket exhausts
weight savings and various other tuning options...
my [approx 1970] cb450; 45bhp @ 9000
412lb, for 112mph and 13sec 1/4mile..
standard engine plus minimal tuning etc
she beat [some] 650 bonnevilles over 1/4mile
[unofficial] drag racing..
this new cbr500r is designed primarily for civilised
general road use, given todays emissions laws etc,
so what you get [for the $] is the basic model..
or, looked another way, the starting point
to wherever you choose to take it...
Would be nice to have a 5ish second 0-60 bike for a little extra rush and get up and go when needed. A 600rr is a bit too much for me in every way. Will the CBR500 have decent acceleration?
I'm going to take an educated guess and say heck yes - sure it's a little heavier but with 47-ish horsepower I think we'll be just fine. Our 250's can hit 60 mph in around 8. A 600 does 60 in 3.3 (wow). I'd say the new 500's will be between 5 & 6 seconds. Total guess of course (and those times are dependent on rider skill as well..)

I sat on one at the IMS in San Mateo, CA. I don't like how high the handlebars feels compared to the 250. I don't like how high the handlebar looks compared to the 250.
I read this, and immediately compared side-view photos of the 250R and the 500R. I'm not seeing at all how the 500's handlebars are significantly higher, or even a little bit higher, than the 250's. I know the seat height is .5" higher, but the grips seem basically the same.
That said, you sat on one and I have not. Are you sure you were on the R and not the X? The X has a closer setup (higher handlebars) to the NC700 I've heard / read.

Definetley was on the R. The handlebars looked so plain, too square as well, as i mentioned before. The 2013 cbr 250r was beside the 500r and it did look higher. I just dont know. It just felt that way, i guess. We need actual measurements. The last thing i would think about was to bring my measuring tape be it my first moto show and all.
Im really leaning in on just going the 600rr route. Right now, ABS on the 13' 600rr HRC....and im sold BUT they are only doing the ABS in red. I am not feeling the the silver swing arm with the red for some reason.
Im really considering going the no ABS route. I just dont know, my first bike, this 250 is with ABS. Going without it doesnt seem right.
Anyone else love this color? I do. I guess it's not coming to the U.S. though.
I do too - definitely better than the black, but I still think I like the red best. If you painted those lower parts the same silver, and did the exhaust that way (or put a carbon can on it), THEN you would have a really good looking bike.
But Honda doesn't seem capable of that kind of continuity in styling, sadly. It seems to be important to them to stick pieces of odd color in various places on their motorcycles, for no apparent reason other than laziness. Compare that to the N300 in white, and you'll see what I mean.
