Finally - an image of the elusive black 500R, and a few bikes back, a 500X in black as well. Black... Red... Black... Red..?

Actually I may end up waiting for the 700s a few years as it's a good size, and realistically looking at my riding style I rarely keep the revs up and I think that bike would just be a good replacement for the 'good at everything great at nothing' type of bike for me. So many bikes out there it boggles the mind!
I really hope that's not the case. I was hoping to get at least $3500 for my 2012 when I move up to a 600 in the next few months. Wishful thinking, I know.

Really sucks to lose your ass when you buy something brand new, but I'd rather be out a few grand and on a 600 than on a 250 .

As far as I can tell, they haven't reduced the price of the 2013 250r. Now, it still could be true that the 500s will drive down prices on pre-owned 250Rs, but I doubt it.

Just sell it privately and you'll get the money you're looking for it. Its definitely more of a hassle, but its the way to go to get the best $ for your bike.

I don't believe the introduction of the 500R will bring down the resale value of our 250R's at all - certainly not any more than the new 2013 250R's will..

I'm not saying $4K isn't a good chunk of change, but when we're talking trade-in values of around $3K for a used 250 that originally cost $4K - we're not talking a huge loss here gang. We also can't factor in after-market upgrades for dealer trades (only if you're selling privately).

No matter what you buy, as soon as you drive / ride away off the dealer lot, just chop off 20%-25% of what you just paid on day 1. If you can't live with that loss and it's not worth upgrading to a bigger & faster machine, just keep what you have & enjoy the he*l out of it.

Saw and sat on the cbr 500r at the Long Beach Motorcycle show this last weekend. The ergonomics of the 500 felt so close to the 250 that if I had closed my eyes and sat on the 500, I would have sworn it was the 250.

The Ninja 300 will be responsible for decreasing the value of used 250cc bikes more then the CBR500 will be in my opinion. As I am possibly looking ro buy a used 2011-2012 CBR250 ABS for around $3000-3500 I am glad to see the value in the used bikes coming down to what I am looking to spend. With the technology in the CBR250 it will retain its value better then the Ninja 250 will. I could see the value of a used 2008-2012 Ninja 250 dropping to $2000-2500 at which price I would invest in a track bike. There has been several used Ninja 250's for sale between $2800-3200 that haven't sold but haven't seen a used CBR250 for sale yet.

A Ninja 300 wont decrease the value of any 250, IMO. The reason the Honda resales for more is cause it's a better built machine and it's a Honda. 250s fit a certain nitche and so does the 300.
