Call me old fashioned, but I prefer analogue tacho.
I really like the 250R and 600RR's gauges, and the Ninja 300's as well. Digital speedo & analog tach - best of both worlds! If I had to pick one thing to change on the CBR500R, it would be the all-digital gauge cluster. They didn't even include a temp indicator?
I see no reason the 500R needs to be all digital, and for the life of me I can't figure out why Honda thought this would be a better option. Not a deal-breaker but definitely a checkmark in the negative column.

Should have been virtually free for them to use all digital. Maybe a cent more since the LCD panel would be bigger. Custom TN panels when bought in bulk cost like $10, going a little bigger to add the tach probably only adds a few cents to it. Adding an analog tach would cost a few bucks more.
Honda cutting corners is the reason why, some knob manager who probably has no clue likely thought that in the life time of the bike he's going to save a pile of money not thinking about how disgusted a lot of people are with it.

I guess(?), but how much less can that gauge be vs our 250R's?? I would think the 250 would be even more tight on production costs.
In fairness to Honda I was checking out some Kawasakis and Suzukis yesterday and almost ALL of them had the all-digital gauges.
Maybe it'll grow on me. The other two competing bikes on my short list have the analog tach & digital speedometer - it's not a major negative for the 500R, but it is at least a minor one.

Well, even if it’s just $1 per unit or so that will add up to a significant savings, and it is probably even bigger than that.
A '13 Ninja 300, and an '09 600RR Phoenix (found one with 0 miles for an awesome price). Realistically though at this point it will come down to the Ninja 300 and the CBR500R. I just like keeping that beast on my list for whatever reason.
I haven't seen the 300 or the 500 up close yet, that will obviously help me decide. Thinking of heading to IMS in New York next month.

Those are both great bokes, but obviously very different. I owned a CBR600 many years ago, it was a fantastic bike. If I had my choice between the two the CBR would be it by far, but for me and what I use a bike for, the CB500X is at the top of my list!
I'm 42 and when chevrolet changed the camaro in 82 I was absolutely appauled and now it is one of my favorite cars of all time and I'm a Ford guy. I think this will be the same for me the first view of it I thought I might up chuck and just a few views later it's growing on me FAST!!!
Hi all you will be very disappointed with CBR500R as a sports bike. It have lousy front suspension (not inverted type) and useless digital display. The sub-frames looks very cheap. The CBR500R comes with a low compression cylinder and it comes with low horse power( I expect 60HP with a 500cc). After I seen the real CBR500R at the Thai expo I really feel very down because I am expecting more from Honda even it was manufacture in Thailand plant like the NSR150RR( nice 2-stroke small Cc). I myself have ridden NSR150RR, CBR400RR, NSR250 MC28 and RVF400 NC35. It was a true disappointment from Honda comparing the Bikes that I have ridden and it's weight to power ratio! Stay with CBR250R until CBR500RR is out (2-3years later maybe?) or Get CBR600RR instead don't waste time because when you ride a sports bike you will eventually go down to track and CBR500R needs heavy modifications and that means $$$$.
