I dunno, kind of underwhelmed here by the look. It's too budget-y. Makes a lot more sense on the 250, but styling usually transfers down the chain, not up (for example the Kawi 300 styling is reminiscent of the larger Kawi bikes).
agreed. looks like a cheap piece of junk. It also looks too much like the 250 with the overall design and grab rails, rear compartment, seat layout and the fairings. Definately not on my list and for whoever said this looks better than the ninja 300 you have got to be kidding yourselves

I am super-excited about this bike. Comments about aesthetics are of course subjective here, no one's wrong. Personally, this bike in no way looks "cheap", I think the black model is gorgeous, yes sexier than the Ninja. MUCH nicer front.
It has definitely diverted my attention away from 600RR considerations (I know, different bikes - sport vs super sport). But on pretty much every level, the 500 just makes so much sense (for me anyway).
I was riding my 250R today and thought - this bike is just a TON of fun. Then I imagined what it might be like with twice the power, and came to the realization that 46+ hp would be ideal.
Really looking forward to more info on this new monster!
I would be very surprised if the 500r is priced in the same range as the N300. It's much more powerful and provides the same mpg.
The Ninja 300 actually falls in between the CBR250R and the CBR500R, specs-wise. It makes sense that it would be priced that way as well. My guess is mid to high $5k for non-abs 500r.
My hope is that its specs are at least similar to the ninja 500r's. People often forget that they exist and compare the cbr500 to the n300. Kawasaki is still making a lot of money off of the ninja 500 and hopes to continue that with the n300. My guess is that honda is playing the cbr500 card in a hope of killing two birds with one stone. If the cbr's specs are on par or exceed the ninja 500, honda will dominate the middleweight and budget sportbike market. Think about it. If they price the new cbr at $5299, I'll even go so far as to say $5599 standard, and $5899 for ABS, 80% of the market will say "Why get a ninja when I can be riding a CBR!?"

You don't have a very good eye. The ninja and cbr styling are very different. The ninja has a sharp, angular set to it, I kind of like it, but it's busy. The 500 has more classic lines which are softer but pleasing.
Honda doesn't make anything "cheap" and they certainly don't make pieces of junk. Many people prefer the looks of the N250 over the CBR, but I doubt you'll find any experienced rider or motorcycle professional that would describe the CBR's build as cheap or junk. In fact, the fit and finish quality is pretty much unanimously in Honda's favor.
I think Lewi has cheap confused with elegant. The ninja approach for the 250 and now 300 has always been to look like a supersport, the CBR does not. I see the small displacement Ninjas like a Porsche with a Ford Focus engine in it, while our CBR is more like a Miata. Nothing to hide, not covering up anything or over compensating for a "lack of stuff" underneath.
on specs above, read report incl 52 or 54hp incl that 47hp is 'restricted eu'..
to each his own, of course, and this is a cost determined creation,,
but within its context it is beautiful.. even i can see that..
No. For what is worth, the power output is "rumoured" to be below 50hp. And they also say the F.E is about 29kmpl which could mean that its yet another sports tourer tuned for better F.E for people who like more power, yet get a decent tank range for long tours or commute. The pillion seat speaks a lot doesnt it?

i mean cheap suspension
cheap brakes
cheap bodywork
cheap components in general
it's kinda like our cbr250r in the sense it's a budget commuter but don't get me wrong i love my cbr250r. The styling doesn't look too flash either...I think the cbr250r looks better than this cbr500. It looks too similar to the cbr250r so it's not like it's anything new, more power of course but nothing fancy
all i'm saying is that to step up from the 250 to a bigger bike i would prefer to have a bike with upgraded components that isn't produced on a budget to suit certain markets but that's just me
if you compare this to a ninja 650 with similar power i think the 650 looks better all around but it's not made on a budget and the fit and finish looks a lot better but obviously i haven't seen a cbr500 in person yet
