This guy is making a KILLING. $5000 for a cx500 with a few bolt on mods and an amateur paint job. Unbelievable! Good for the seller I guess. Rip of the century.
From the text of the ad: "She's very lite and quick."
Those aren't words I recall ever being used to describe a CX500 back in the day when it was a current model. Here in the UK they had the nickname "Plastic Maggot".
At the time of writing this I see that it has attracted 3 bids. Fair play to the seller but I certainly won't be adding to that.
"The sell of the century"? That might be a bit premature, as there are 85 years still to go.
As for the guy "making a killing", I highly doubt it. I'd bet he has a lot more time and money wrapped up in that bike than what he'll actually get for it (or what it's worth).
It is a killing. You can get a near pristine cx500 for what? Around $1500? Another $1200 in accessories and he's up to $2300 profit. If he painted it himself (and it appears like he did) he's nearly doubled his money. All the mods are bolt ons, so I don't image it took him too much time.
Bottom line is 5000 dollars for pretty much stock cx500 is a KILLING. I saw that bike and thought "2000 tops to the right guy."
And okay maybe sell of the century is a bit premature, but as far as motorcycles go, he hit the jackpot.
Possibly, but if it was a nostalgic purchase the buyer could have found an unmolested version for much less coin.
