omg who cares about gas mileage, just ride the bike you want
Yeah I don't get it either. At a 20 mpg difference, gas $3.75/gallon, 5k miles a year, it's like $230 a year savings. Who gives a f*ck, unless you are penniless are the bike is your main source of transport and you live in a hovel of some sort. If you had a Lambo that got 8 mpg (and I did, worst car ever btw), I get it, but this 60 mpg or 80 mpg argument is stupid.

LoL same problem as above! Sat on so many bikes and there's very few of them where I'm not ready to tip over due to stupid 29" inseam!
I think a KLR250-400 would be in the cards for me...but I don't think we'll ever see one.
I too have inseam problems and an '89 KLR250 was both to tall and too top heavy for me to trail ride with it. It was barely manageable as a street bike. That caused me to buy the little CRF230L for trail riding.

Nekid motorcycles feel faster
I like the storage tank placement on the NC700. It's be a good place to store my jack in the summer when I get off of the bike. My GF does this with her scooter as I cut eyes at her in envy.
The 500X... fuel filler is in the right spot for carrying luggage on the rear seat.
Last week I made a heart-felt post on the NC-700 forum delineating the only thing that kept me from buying the NC700 was that the fuel filler placement precludes me from using the passenger seat to strap luggage and be able to easily and quickly fill up and top off the fuel without having to unstrap everything and find a place to set them down. I suggested Honda would have been better off placing the filler on the side, like BMW, or even under the riders seat instead of passenger, and I would be on board in a heartbeat. All I can say is, don't ever go onto their forum and say anything negative about the bike they gush on and on about over and over. Their owner age poll suggests the median age is in the mid-40's, but judging from the responses, it is more like 18-25, or possibly even junior high. An NC700-hugging moderator removed the thread. Didn't close it, removed it. Sheesh... Grow up, people.
well it's stupid. most motorcycles have far better gas mileage than any car and people still worry about a bike getting 5 or 10 less mpg's and they log their fuel mileage to make sure they aren't riding it too hard.
Umm actually thats really not true. Prehaps in say America where 'bigger is better' it might hold an element of truth.. but here in the UK, NO.
Most sold car in 2012, Ford Fiesta - MPG = 44-85mpg Combined
Ford Focus - 47-64mpg Combined
Vaux Corse - 1.3cdti - 85.6mpg
Volk Polo - 1.2 TDI - 80mpg
Now unless we all want to ride on scooters (for real ?) I cant see how bikes are 'better' on average. What with your average sports bike averaging 35-40mpg. As to who cares ? Me I have a family to support. I use my bike for work most days (unless too icy ) and it costs me £5 a day less than it would in my family car (mondeo tit-x, 140bhp.. currently gets 39mpg ish)
£100 a month on fuel costs makes a big difference to making ends meet

As to the NC700x, I just think it's fugly
Typherin
why bring up an old thread to try and make a point. By the way your facts are extremely flawed, if you can give me sources on where you got your information that would be great.
There are 534 fiestas on Fuelly, the highest anyone has gotten is 55mpg. The average is 35mpg so where is this wonderful 80mpg figure you speak of? What about a popular family car which is the top car posted on fuelly, the Volkswagen Jetta, 40mpg is the highest average figure. What about the Toyota Prius which is meant to be an efficient car, 47mpg. A lot more motorcycles will beat that figure than cars will.
The other funny thing is you are picking low powered average cars and then you go and compare it with a high performance sport bike which is a race bike with lights.
Remember i said most motorcycles, if you want to compare an R1 or CBR1000RR, compare it to a lambo or a ferrari, if you want to compare a fuel efficient car, compare it to a cbr250r or cbr125r, it will most likely win. Don't compare racing bikes with economical cars. You pretty much proved my point, your cbr250r is much more efficient than your mondeo, hence answering my statement of most motorcycles being more fuel efficient than cars.

also i think you missed the point of my post, i was talking about people worrying about getting 75mpg instead of 80 etc. on such an economical machine, if you have a car that gets 30mpg, then maybe worry but on something like the cbr250r, ride the thing and it will never hurt the wallet

Two of the main reasons I ride is for fun and excitement, and I expect the new 500s will be much more fun and exciting to ride than that "Super-scooter" 700 could ever be...
