I bet the tire change caused a code alert.
Try erasing the problem code (16-9 in the service manual)
The reset should solve the problem. Be sure you get the two blink confirmation of the erasure....

The CB300R will be a nice bike, but not necessarily better than the original CBR250R, which is a classic....

I agree with MM 100%. Use a good (great) oil (like Shell Rotella T), change it often, and you won't live long enough to wear the engine out.
Unless you abuse it, in which case no oil will help.
