If I didn't get 10+ years out of tracking a well maintained Ninja 250 or cbr250, or any similar low hp utilitarian Japanese motorcycle I'd call it a lemon.
I just don't understand the paranoia?

Glad you or the bike did not have too much damage. I've noticed that the brakes on these bikes are very sharp and need to be squeezed rather than grabbed. Not something you tend to do in a panic....
