Race / Track Tire Experience

I'm looking for feedback from racers and track riders on their experience with different tires. (I know better than to ask "what is the best tire" - it's like asking what is the best flavor of ice cream.)

Also, if you know of a place to order them online rather than buying them at the track, I would love to know. (I mount my own tires, but it takes me an hour or more - so I don't have time at the track.)

Thanks in advance! (And if there's already a forum on this, I guess I looked but missed it - just point me there.) Thanks again.

I would run BT-003 for the track. It's a very popular track tire for all types of bikes. Cheap and great quality tire. Round 120 USD for a rear.

Any idea from anyone where I can find the full track (rather than the road/track) version online?

I dont think you will be able to find the racing BT-003s in the right size for our bikes. The RS BT-003 is what I use. You and I have already had conversations about them, though.

Ill say this much... I like them so much on the track that I bought a set to use on my Gladius on the road. Got them swapped out this weekend and they are just as awesome on the street. Only thing is that I cant use them as much as I can with the CBR on the track and Ive got some pretty good sized chicken strips, now.. haha!

Not exactly a comparison as I've only used one tire on track, but I also use BT-003 on the track.

Thanks all. I'll stick with the bt-003rs for now. A guy who provides race day tire service suggested I put 125 rims on the bike and run slicks on them. Some quick research shows they're not easy to get in the US, and probably would require some modifications to fit. (I'm not even sure the axle is the same diameter.)

Seems like a hairbrain idea to me. But I'll throw it out there...

From my experience (and this is just me, so take it for what its worth), you dont really need slicks with these bikes to run good times. Its more about getting your tire pressure set correctly with the DOTs. These 003's are very sticky and Ive never had any issues with them.

Plus, if youre running slicks, youll have to invest in tire warmers and youll have to have a way to power them at the track (rent a garage, generator, etc).

If you find that you are able to ride beyond the grip that the 003s can provide, then Id start looking down the road of slicks. Everyone that I race with is either on the 003s or Pirelli DOTs (Rosso II rear / SC1 front).
