Power commander

Is a power commander necessary for a 250 if I have an after market air filter and exhaust? I would assume better gas mileage but I think it wont increase hp by much.

I dont think it would be the worst to get one. I got a Delkevic slip on and a PC Fuel Controller. I didn't get a custom tune but out one on for a akropovic slip on. The idle seemed to be a little rougher and I did have it stall on small blips but after a week it stopped doing that. I believe the stock ECU did some mapping trimming to help out.

Air filter and slip-on no. Full exhaust with an air filter, you're likely out of the pre-determined compensation range of the stock ECU and will be running lean without a tune.

Tis better to be thought a fool and remain silent, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.

I put one on my race bike and it just made everything work better. You don't have to get it mapped, hook it up and you will notice the difference, just makes everything work better. Mine is for sale if you want one. I am doing more mods and am going with a Bazazz with auto tune.
