Any benefit to removing the airbox snorkel?

I tried to pull it out but could not tell how far in it was. Has anybody removed theirs and can confirm it simply pulls out?

Removing the snorkel will make the intake-sound louder, but often softens the low and mid-range torque and throttle response.

A snorkel is used to smoothly direct the air into the box. An opening with a sharp edge creates turbulence which reduces flow.
