Well, just .02 worth, but, if it were mine, I'd get the manual, and the new ignition switch, and whatever harness part needed (if needed), take the tank and plastics off and go to work. I've done some silly things and fried stuff when I was impatient to get something on the road and now I'm OCD about getting everything right...especially in the electrical/electronics where expensive stuff goes up in smoke quick.
Nothing really difficult on these bikes, just take pictures as you go along, put all the fasteners and parts in bins (I use old plastic butter tubs), and read the manual on the section you're going into.
Have had two stolen and it sucked, tracked one down myself and got it back, other one gone for good.
