I've had this problem plenty of times. Not sure if something is wrong with my key but I can insert it into the ignition and if it won't turn, I just remove the key, turn the key upside down, retry and ironically it works.

Seems a whole lot of fuss that is fixed by a drop of lubricant.

And cover the keyhole when washing.. all motorcycles do this when neglected.

I think that was a bit of stretched to say neglected
I don't or have ever neglected my motorcycle. These are things new riders don't know and learn as I did, still it shouldn't be that hard IMO. Yes wd40 fixed the problem. Buying know Co worker who have motorcyles and this has never happened

Use some actual lubricant and it will last longer.

I use WD-40 to clean it out and follow it up with some chain lube or oil, depending on what I've got. Anything will work, pretty much. I use olive oil a lot, actually, because it's usually readily available and doesn't go rancid like other oils. Turns out olive oil is pretty good machine oil.

What can I do to fix this?

I am thinking of spraying wd40 on the key ,should I ?

Dont know is someone mentioned this already or not as I did not read the whole thread but just the ??...

They key actually works you just have to make sure you got the bars turned as far left as possible or it will catch like that... will not lock or unlock. happened to me the first 20 miles or so.

i had a major problem with this during the colder months with my cbr250. My ignition basically seized completely, in various states, locked, off, on, can't remove the key etc. I finally had to get it towed to the dealer, and it turned out to be some 'semi' warranty covered issue. They replaced the whole lock assembly, new keys for from and back. Luckily my insurance paid for the tow as well, so ended up paying 0$. Never did any research on this issue after the fact, and this is the first time i've heard of anyone with a similar problem.

Billy you're gonna have to write a book about what you've learned.

I had this problem. Dealer said that part of the internal lock (possible the trap) had some surface rust on it. They said its not covered under to warranty due to being stored outside, apparently it needs to live inside with me. But the dealer did spray it out with some liquid graphite and it has been working great since. From now on I will periodically do this to keep it working.
