My sons fuel tank has a lot of rust in it. Im going to try and remove the rust by electrolysis. I have removed the fuel pump and the float appears to have moved to a wrong position would someone have a pic showing the position of the float attached to pump?
I'll replace filter and see if pump is OK.
Any other suggestions to how to remove rust would be appreciated.
I've used metal prep chemicals and some nuts/bolts to remove the rust. Some have rust inhibitors also, as you need something to stop it from rusting again. We have used RedKote sealer in a tank that was pretty bad, but that's my last resort. I'd rather clean it and use a phosphate to prevent rusting instead of a coating.
Keeping the tank as close to full as possible, and not using gas with ethanol, will help - especially for storage. I also add a few ounces of 2-stroke oil at the end of the year when I top-off the tank for storage.
