A near miss (with being stranded, not crashing)
A couple of nights ago I dropped my CBR off after work at a local workshop for it's 8000mile valve clearance check.
The following morning I had a call from the mechanic to ask if I had an immobiliser fitted or had modified the electrics in any way. He'd turned the key to get the mileage for the service record and the bike was dead. There was power in the battery but nothing getting through to the bike.
The culprit turned out to be a positive feed spade connector in a plug and socket under the tank that had corroded to the point where it had snapped. The mechanic reckoned that the way it was wrapped in insulation could have actively funneled water to the connector block in wet riding.
All fixed now and I'm so glad it didn't give way a couple of months ago when I was 600 miles from home.
