Question Filling 1.4L Of Oil. But Only 1/3 Full On Oil Window.-

I just changed my bike oil. Put it about 1.4L because i don't change the oil filter.

After i heated up the bike, leave it cool, i saw only about 1/3 of oil on the oil window.

Where does the oil goes ? Should i add fill up more oil ?

Thanks.

Why on earth wouldn't you want to change the oil filter every time you change the oil? By not changing the filter, you are leaving a fair amount of residual dirty oil in the oil filter housing that would otherwise be drained. And you've got your new oil now running through a contaminated oil filter. Finally, it's not as if the filter is an expensive item. Here in the US, Honda dealers sell the oil filters for about $5 USD.

As for your question regarding the oil level in the sight glass, as long as the oil level is seen within the sight glass (viewed with the bike upright) you're good to go. However if you do decide to add more oil, do not go above the top of the sight glass.

The total capacity with a filter change IS 1.4L. So if you added that, you should see it on the window, and likely will be overfilled by 200-300mL since you didn't change the filter.

My guess is you're incorrectly checking the sight glass with the bike on its side stand. In which case, it's going to read way low because you have to check it completely upright to get the proper level.

Typically you warm the engine slightly or go for a ride, shut it off, wait 3 minutes, then balance the cycle perfectly level and check the dipstick/sightglass.

For a sightglass the correct level is usually between the "H" (high) and "L" (low) marks on the glass.

Give that a try and report back.

The CBR doesn't hold much oil (1.4L isn't much), so having the correct oil and oil level is more critical. I'd change the filter each time as well. Be sure to read the oil change instructions and make sure the filter is installed in the proper direction or major engine damage will result.
