There's oil in there. It's necessary to drain the oil before removing the crank case cover, in order to access the stator. I'm guessing stators can be faulty without visible signs, on rare occasion....

I'm averaging between 72 to 78 mpg on mine in Santa Fe, NM at 7000 to 10,000 ft elevation.
Daily work commuter on weekdays and plenty of aggressive (to me) riding in the twisty hilly roads for fun....

I like the rubber foot pegs on such a vibration filled bike. As a commuter it's nice. Another angle would be cool to feel, though.
