Just to be safe, my password now has 64 characters, including several from the following alphabets:

  • Tifinagh
  • Santali
  • Mkhedruli
  • Cyrillic
  • hangŭl

Can't be too careful these days.

Yeah, this seems like overkill for a motorcycle forum. I never knew that they were a more high value target them my student loan accounts, my creditcards, or my banks.

Just to be safe however I grabbed the family cat and mashed it on the keyboard a few dozen times. There's no way a russonigeriannkorean hacker will be able to take over my CBR250forum account now!

Well if I had to guess, a security audit probably revealed that a few too many geniuses on the site were using cbr250r as their password.

Apparently all of the Vertical Scope motorcycle forums were hacked.

It sounds like the danger is that people use the same login and password for more important, i.e. financial, accounts.

Yes that is the biggest concern, we ca always revisit the password criteria, but for now we need to get users to think about changing to a NEW password that is unique to this forum to keep them and there information safe. A lot of the passwords shown for users on that site, were acquired because they had the same email address and pass for twitter, linkedin and the like.

I just stuck with the password the site generated for me. Seemed very secure. Long passwords are no problem if you have a password manager.

If you wish for something more personal, you can always go to UserCP > Edit Email and Password and change it to something more personal.

However, as you have a password manager, it should not be an issue for you.
