As the title reads, How does the the CBR250R compare to the MDH250? I have a 2005 CBR1000RR since new and have been riding since 2000. I'm looking for a lightweight, underpowered motorcycle to work on my skills. I never rode dirt and do not have anywhere to ride dirt, but I would love to. That being said, I'm not too comfortable when the wheels start sliding, or the rear starts spinning up. I'm thinking about buying an MDH250 to work on my braking, cornering, and overall speed at the track and I was wondering how the CBR250R compares. Is track glass readily available for this bike? Is the performance similar with a gearing change, full exhaust and intake, suspension, and tires?

I did try a search, but could not find anything on the MDH250 let alone a comparison with the CBR250R.

For $4 grand plus mods it's probably a lot cheaper than the $12.7k MDH250, and A LOT lot cheaper than the $28.6k NSF250R.

Saturday bump. Any one have any ideas on these bikes. I'm having a hard time trying to get an MDH250. There are no dealers around me in the Northeast. I have called some about 4 hours from me that are listed as MDH dealers, but even they don't stock them.

Anyone with more experience with these little 250s, do you know if the CBR could compete with an MDH or is it just too heavy and underpowered?

G'day, the MD is a rare bike with a very limited market so not many could give an opinion on.. I know i cant.
But I will say the cbr is an excellent 23hp bike to develop rider skill.. one mistake costs momemtum, get it right and it rewards, i'll go so far as to say ive learnt more about motorcycle dynamics and my corner speed on this bike in 6 months than I have in almost 30 yrs of big sports bikes..

The cbr handles very well.

And its a cheap track bike proposition.. even cheaper for you in the usa where quality raceglass from Sharkskins is very affordable at $650.
Rearsets are $200 from Tyga, a slip on from Akrapovic (unleashes torque with minor top end improvement as well) is $400, BT003 Tyres are amazing and under $400 a set then its track ready.

The MDH & NSF250R are built in very limited numbers, particularly the NSF. Even with $28,600.00 cash in hand, I seriously doubt Honda would be willing to sell one of these to be used as just a track bike. Just as was the case with the full race NSR250R, you would likely need to have a professional racing resume, showing proven results. I'd be willing to bet that Honda's R&D costs for the NSF is somewhat higher than the $28.6k price. However many they have built, they would be foolish to sell them to just anyone. Honda doesn't just dabble in racing, they take it very seriously. After all their name and reputation is on the line. The fact that not every Honda Dealer can sell the MDH & NSF tells you something about how Honda controls their racing endeavors.

If I had the time and money for a dedicated track bike, a CBR250R properly set up would be a very good way to go. Another option would be finding a used NSR250R, although that would likely cost a lot more money, both in terms of operating costs, and up front purchase cost.
