Hi guys and gals.

I ride a 700GS here in Mexico (trails etc), but we have a new track here and I want to get involved (not with the GS). Zero track experience so I’ll get some instruction. Track days mostly, maybe light racing later-on.

I don’t know if the CBR 250R is the right bike so I figure, ask the experts :)

It’ll be used mainly for track. I am 6ft, 195. I am more interested in corners than straight line speed so am looking Ninja 250, KTM 390 or, preferably, CBR. I know the stats and BHP’s. I like Honda and the price is hard to beat for a play bike - KTM is taller and more hp (but I’m not a fan of the make).

I can order a CBR 250R, but I can’t see one first believe it or not - no sit, test ride, nothing!

Are there any riders of my size that can advise? I figure mods would be safety wiring, strip surperf. weight, tires, filers, slip-on and a p-commander as a basic -hopefully offsetting some of my “relaxed muscle” and getting me near 28bhp???)

Any info/advice very appreciated.

A./

Sadly I am not near to your size but I have done many trackdays and mods. The most beneficial mods for this bike is its suspension. Its a budget bike for the road so the springs are soft and the damping is not the greatest. I am a "slim" 155 lbs for being 5'4" but I feel that suspension is too soft for track riding. I upgraded the front forks with Racetech's .70kg/mm springs and their emulators. I still feel that they are too soft and the damping is not enough even with heavier oil. I also fit a used R6 shock into the rear. Overall it did make a big improvement that allowed for some adjustability. I would say you need to focus on getting good tires are suspension before you go for powermods unless you have the money and want to get it.

As for safety wiring, unless youre racing they most likely wont make you safety wire.
