Took it for a 1.5 hr ride tonight which is pretty long for me as I typically just ride for some kicks and go home. Yeah, I will never win a iron butt contest. On the freeway the bike's stock exhaust of course if fine with me, however on the street revving up and down its too loud. Is there anyway to insert something in the stock pipe to shut it up more? I can see the fun of hearing the pipe for maybe half an hr but more than that for me its just rather noisy. I know everyone has different taste in how their bikes sound, for me I have no clue how you guys with aftermarket pipes take it. I use earplugs already.

Believe it or not this bike is noiser than the current ZX6R, you learn something every day from me. :D

I'll step forward and be "that" guy that says "Hey man, It's a motorbike" and whatnot.

I'm rocking a 2Bros, sooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Perhaps taking it to a machine shop to see if they can retrofit a pipe is the only option aside from removing the keys.

Louder than your ZX6R! Whoa!

Get better earplugs.
You are wearing a full face helmet?

If your neighbors think it's too loud give them earplugs.

Seriously....this is about the quietest exhaust bike you'll find.
There is no aftermarket exhaust you can install any quieter.

Note the OP -- The bike (at least to me) seems louder while on it than it does to be beside it. What I'd say to do is drive past some friends, and get their take on how loud it is.

I know sitting on the CBR I can hear it in the upper RPM range, however every time I've seen one pass by on the street (while I am say at a bus stop or on a bench/in a park) I cannot hear it at all. I've also had a few bicyclists almost cut in front me me when I am 2-3 feet away from them, as they don't hear me behind them.

As posted above, a quality helmet might help. Also, The rubber seals on your full face helmet/face shield may be dry. I think you can get something at the bike shop to lube it and make it seal better. Hopefully some more knowledgeable people can post something more useful.

I have noted that when others ride by me on my CBR the exhaust note is extremely muted. When my girl is two houses away I can't hear it at all. It does seem louder when you're on it though. I like the sound when riding it, personally. Not offensive at all to me. Can't imagine wanting to wear ear plugs!?

Ride with someone who has an FMF exhaust without the insert, and you'll have a whole new perspective on what is quiet, and what isn't. A stock exhaust CBR sounds like it's powered by a rubber band in comparison to the deep BRRAAAPPP of the FMF equipped bike.

Ride with someone without the insert in the Massive Akrapovic hollow tube.

My god! it goes from the quietest aftermarket exhaust to the loudest bloody thing Ive ever heard. tried it twice... never again, very embarrasing at the track to be so loud and so slow.
