Had my first oh **** moment. I had the light but the local cop put his lights on causing everyone in his lane to run the light so he could get to his call. Some lady turn left right into me. Luckily I was riding slow enough to swerve out of the way, but bcuz of her angle thinking she might still side swipe me I dropped the bike and ran to the curb. No damages to me or the bike whatsoever. She was courteous enough to come back and see if I was hurt. I told her only my pride! Had we wrecked I don't even no who fault it would be bcuz about 6 of them ran the light to let the cop pass. She was the only one to turn left the rest of them kept straight. That's my lil tale!

Glad you are ok, well done in making a safe exit for yourself. I know you've probably heard it before but as much as we like our vehicles or other possessions, they are easier to fix or repair....you aren't.

With safe regards from the mostly frozen north.

^^ Agreed! You're far more important than the bike.

Glad you're OK- have you had time to calm your nerves and think what you might have done differently to get out of the situation without dropping the bike?

I guess the lesson here is that emergency vehicles can make people do stupid things. That lady did the right thing to let the cop pass, but apparently kept her destination in mind instead of her surroundings. Watch out. At or near an intersection, the safest thing to do might be to pull over and wait for the cop/ambulance/whatever to pass, even if it's on the other side of the road. Just a thought.

Cambobomb, I do belive that the lady did not do the right thing along with the other drivers that ran the red light, the same with the cop, The cop to start with cannot go untill all cross traffic stops, and the civilian vehicles can't run a red light at all. They should have pulled to the extreme side of their lane.
But I am glad your ok scares like that are not nice.

This is not correct in Texas. Civilians are obligated to clear the way for emergency vehicles, albeit safely. That often includes moving safely through red lights.

I wasn't stopped.I was in the left turning lane pulling up to the line. She just made a very sharp turn trying to get out the way. It was hospital traffic also. There wasn't nothing else I could do other than drop the bike. If I could have done it again maybe I'd take another street. I understand it was a freak thing. Some accidents are none avoidable. This was on of them times. Thx for all the well wishes.

Be careful to stay out of a vehicle's blind spot. Never ride parallel to any vehicles at any time. If you see someone that rides next to you immediately either drop back or pull forward or change lanes if you are able to. Always be extra super cautious on multiple lane roads, that's where increased danger can lurk.

On the highway, stay in the slow lane (far right), that way if someone pulls an unexpected lane change your way you can bail out to the hard shoulder on the right without traffic being involved. Even if you get hit by a careless driver on the highway doing a lane change I'm sure you'd rather be thrown to the hard shoulder to the far right out of traffic's way rather than the possibility of getting nailed by oncoming vehicles.

Yesterday on the freeway a woman decided to occupy the same space I was already in! I laid on the horn, got on the gas and barely cleared her front bumper. Since I was now in front of her I decided to express my displeasure with her ineptitude. I think I actually scared her. I hope so. Maybe, just maybe, she will look outside her car or at least glance at the mirrors before changing lanes. Probably not.

The "blind spot" is anything outside the car.

Everybody everywhere has all kinds of crazy ideas about how to deal with emergency vehicles. In Cali, everybody dives for the curb/shoulder as if the EV requires a nice, red carpet to make their destination. In New York, the impeding cars will give whatever inch they can spare, then dart back directly behind the EV to take advantage of the "parting of the Red Sea effect," and if somebody's there, then it's a mad jockey for that coveted spot.

Not just the safest thing to do, but the only legal thing to do. Unless there's an uncrossable median like a highway divider, you pull over, or commit a pretty serious moving violation (failure to yield to an Emergency Vehicle). Little pet-peeve of mine that risks lots of lives and slows response times.

When my lights are on, my blinkers don't work. You don't know where I'm going. Get out of the way, and stay there until I pass.
