Automotive tire Tire Auto part Automotive exterior Vehicle brake

Here are some pictures of where I spray, however I have run into multiple issues when waxing my chain and I have yet to find a technique that works best. The main issue I have is in the overspray. If I knew that chain wax did nothing to tires and disc brakes, I would just spray the S*%& out of it and not worry about overspray...but I cant get it out of my head that wax+tires=bad news.

So what are your techniques for lubing your chain?

Do you worry about overspray and/or how do you combat it?

What parts of the chain do you aim at?

Also, I have been using rubbing alcohol to touch up the edges of my tires that got wax on them...what is the answer to rubbing alcohol+rubber=?

Thank you guys and gals

I spray just the inside of the chain as these are the parts that contact the sprockets. And, as the chain is spinning, excess is forced to the outside, lubing the outside of the chain anyway.

I spray lube through one rotation of the chain and that's it generally. As for overspray on the tyres, I just wash it off with warm water and soap. I'd keep alcohol away from any and all kinds of rubber.

I spray mine on the lower part, like in your first picture but further forward toward the front sprocket. More like between the front sprocket and the tyre. You don't need to go too nuts on it, but the lube I use has a little pipe you put in the nozzle of the can so there's not really any overspray

i use silkolene for o-ring chains, with tube applicator,
raise rear on lifter, lightly press button with tube
on middle of links as chain goes over rear sprocket,,
light press = smaller amount of lube released,,
hold piece of cardboard behind in case..

silkonene doesnt seem to fling off
onto wheel/tire.. warm up chain
first with 5 min ride..
allow to settle into chain..
[adjust chain while there]
use detergent on tires/wheels
with brush and sponge,
if it pleases you :)

I worry about overspray too. When I grease my chain I use Blue Tac chain lube by Bel-Ray lubricants its not supposed to sling off everywhere. I take my time and spray lightly around the rear sprocket then I allow to set for 30-45 min before riding.

Thanks, I was curious about lubing more toward the front sprocket (maybe even on front sprocket)...and a pipette attachment on the end would really help the overspray problem so I will see if I can find one to fit my bottle.

Detergent is genius! same cleaning power but softer on the tires

I do this and hold a wad of 2 paper towels behind to catch any overspray and wipe the excess before rolling to the next section. I try to do it immediately upon arriving home and putting it on the rear stand.

I used to spray the side but it led to a coat of wax on my rear disc. I might try the cardboard technique though and see how much more I can get done
