I believe it's illegal to do something like that to your headlight in my state.
You can't even add a light color tint. Anything that alters the color or brightness of the headlight is verbotten.
As far as i know its not illegal as long as the light is visible from 1,000 ft but im really not too concerned with legality i know a few people who have done this to their cars and havnt ever had an issue with the law

Maybe that's a clue that what you're thinking of doing isn't such a good idea? Just maybe??

With ten thousand threads on how to make your bike more visible on the road, I never thought I'd see one about making it LESS visible.
I have reflective tape on my rims and plan on adding more to other areas of the bike. Im not making the lights so dark that light will not go thru them. Just tinting the lenses so when the bike is off it has that blacked out look. At night this will hardly affect my visability to others

Wanting to black-out the tail & headlights on my 250 not sure weather to use VHT Nightshades or vinyl tint. Does anyone have experience with either product or what method did you use that worked well?

Nightshades
VHT SP999 Nite-Shades Lens Cover Tint Translucent Black Paint Can - 10 oz. : Amazon.com : Automotive

Vinyl Tint
50% Dark Smoke Black-Out Vinyl Headlight Taillight Tints : Amazon.com : Automotive
Of those two products, definitely the first, Nightshades. That vinyl tint is 50% which is a lot. Way too much. At least with the spray can you can apply it in thin coats until it is to your liking without going too dark. It's your bike, do what you want...just don't expect others not to post their opinion on it when you ask about it in a public forum.

Perhaps that's true in Florida, but not all states are so lienient. In fact in Massachusetts they have started regularly pulling over cars with aftermarket headlights and writting tickets on the spot. I've seen bikes and cars pulled over for adding LED illumination and even differently colored bulbs in their parking lights. Even Harley riders adding additional white lights to improve visability get routinely harrassed around here.
I'd hate to see you go to all the trouble only to get stopped because you wandered over the border into Georgia one day without noticing.

Sorry to break this to you, but just because you start a thread here, does not give you the right to tell other members what they should, or shouldn't post in reply to "your" thread. By starting a thread, you run the risk of receiving replies which may not be what you want to hear.

I'm not going to comment on your specific idea here, as the other guys posting to this thread have summed it up very well... I will say that I'm stunned by the shear number of these cosmetic farkle threads in this forum. Most seem to be started by first time riders, obsessed with "modding" their bikes. I'm of the opinion that new riders would be better served if they would focus their time, money, and efforts on becoming proficient motorcyclists. But hey, what the hell do I know?...
