Why pay $500 for it if you're going to turn it off?
If you followed another thread about ABS you already know I'm not a big fan of it. However, the worst idea, at least to me, is to use it sometimes and not others.
ABS requires enough pressure to lock the wheels for it to function properly. Throw that much pressure on the front lever with no ABS (or with it turned off) and you're in for a world of hurt. So now you're saying that you're going to develop two radically different braking styles and automatically (and instantly) remember which one to use in a crisis? The human brain does not work that way: in a crisis we rely on instinct, and the only way to alter instincts is with training. And you can't train for two vastly different responses to the same input and expect any consistency upon application.
I purposefully bought a non-ABS CBR250r. However, if I had somehow wound up with the "A" model, I'd either turn ABS off and leave it off or learn how to make it give me the results I wanted. Mix and match is a bad idea.
BTW, I freely admit that I don't get the whole "stoppies" thing - the fact that it starts with the same two letters as "stupid" doesn't quite strike me as a coincidence. Maybe we should just rename them "stuppies"
