That sounds god-awful. I thought mine sounded bad. Maybe the camera is magnifying it to a certain degree. Mine seems to have lessened over time/miles, or I've just gotten used to it. Or my leovince had deafened me. :p

The way its rattling in the video something is vibrating back there but it sounds alright to me, I'd say if it hasn't exploded yet don't worry about it... But if you really want to find it, it's not an engine rattle the way the camera is pointed, I'd look at the chain alignment, the passenger pegs mounts, heat shields...

mystery rattle ?????

Rattle may mean:

Rattle (percussion instrument), a type of percussion instrument
Rattle (percussion beater), a part of some percussion instruments
RATTLE magazine, an American poetry journal
Bird-scaring rattle, a Slovene device used to drive birds off vineyards and a folk instrument
Ratchet (instrument), a percussion instrument
Death rattle
Rhinanthus, a genus of plants
Rattle, Derbyshire, a hamlet in England
The Rattles, German rock band who recorded an upbeat version of "Zip-a-dee-doo-dah" in the 1960's also famous for their 1970 hit "The Witch"
RATTLE, a constraint algorithm used in molecular dynamics simulations
Rattle GUI a gui for the statistical programming language R
Football rattle, a ratchet used by football fans to make a supportive or celebratory noise

i dont think is the chain because i put a new one at the 8,000mile breakdown ....
.....but i think it is: B...(percussion beater), a part of some percussion instruments :)

...feel bad for the people that think is a death-rattle:(

....but just in case some one can get me a new motor from Honda ... here's some for more beautiful music by me and my MC41 percussion instrument ........

..can't wait till football season ;)

Sounds like the chain to me too, though it's difficult to tell on my computer. Why did you change it at 8k? Did you change the sprockets when you changed the chain? How often do you lube it? I'd check the tightness of your rear engine mounting too, it looks like it's loose to me. The gap between the engine and the mount seems to open and close as you accelerate through the gears.

the chain starts to "clank" when is too loose.....no !?

...and isn't it those little things between the chain that start to rattle .. but that's when the chain is really old and not lubed ... no !?

checking my engine mounts next ... but i still think that's just how the bike rides ....... but that's just me :(

heard a WR250X drive-by today and it kind of sounded "rattlelly" to me ....

... and that's the 1/4 of a R1.

maybe all FI 250's rattle .... just saying

Hi SS. My bike is good, thank you very much. ;) Please DON'T ride the bike until you've checked the mounts. Look carefully at the second vid you posted at the right side of the rear of the gearbox, where it mounts to the frame. The gap between it and the frame keeps opening and closing as you accelerate and change gear. There shouldn't be any gap at all there, it should be bolted up tight. The mounting bolt is definitely loose, or the nut may have fallen off.

Take the engine noise away, and about all you have left is chain noise.

thanks for indirectly saving my life Wynne ... that engine bolt was loooooose

turns out this bike IS a piece of crap :rolleyes:

never had to tighten a engine mounting bolt on a new M.C
..usually those things are welded on ... but the rattler almost shakes off another bolt ....

another reason why i love this bike ...... keeps me on my toes

doing a new 10,000 mile breakdown , oil change and re-tighten and lock-tight every bolt .. fun times :)

PSA- safety check every bolt and nut ..... even the engine mounts
