I've been looking for an exhaust upgrade that can accomplish the following:

1) Reduce weight
2) Improve tone without being obnoxiously loud
3) Provide a catalytic converter to still keep emissions (somewhat) in check

Does anyone know if the stock CBR500R exhaust would meet these objectives? And would it fit?

I've read that Akrapovic offers a few slip-ons that have a space for their optional catalytic converter, but was thinking that picking up a 500's stock exhaust might be cheaper (given that some of those riders are going to be looking to replace theirs with aftermarket...)

Apologies if this question has already been asked but didn't see it in any of my searches.

I also plan to upgrade to an OEM Honda cb500 series exhaust on my 2012 CBR250R but not sure whether any modifications are required for the fitting. There is a Thai YouTube video with a CBR250R running what looks like a modified Cb500 exhuast with a side guard:

I might even wait for the CBR300R and install that exhaust if Honda ever decides to import that bike here to North America.

I bought a Musarri slip-on for $199AUD delivered. Isn't obnoxiously loud, give it more of a 2-stroke dirt bike sound and I love it. Not cat though. I don't think many slip-ons have a cat in them.

Akrapovic exhaust works with their optional aftermarket cat p-kat-028, refer to installation pdf:

Arrow exhausts also manufacture aftermarket catalytic converters for their pipes, and they have one for their CBR250R pipe:

500 exhaust wouldn't work because, as previously mentioned, the cat is before the pipe on this one (directly under the engine).
The new 300 exhaust might work if you'll wait for it, but I doubt that will weigh much less.

Pointing out exhausts that don't have cats really doesn't answer the OP's question at all.
